TOURNAMENT BYLAWS

1. ELSA Early Bird Tournament will have two events as follows:

OPEN EVENT:           10 Teams maximum - includes Sr. A, Sr. B, Jr. A, Int. A, Midget A, plus ELSA div 1A

SECOND EVENT:     10 Teams maximum - includes Intermediate B and lower categories, plus Bantam A

2. Entry Fees are as follows:

OPEN EVENT:           $400.00 (includes 15 gate passes)

SECOND EVENT:     $350.00 (includes 15 gate passes)

3. Prize Money Payout will be determined before the tournament..

4. If for any reason an event is not filled, the prize money will be adjusted appropriately.

5. Each Event will be a ROUND ROBIN format. Each team will be guaranteed four (4) games.

6. The top two finishers in each pool will advance to a playoff round, with the first place team in each section playing the second place team from the other section.

 2011 CORRECTION - In the OPEN event, the top FOUR teams will make the playoffs where first plays fourth and second plays third.

7. If teams are tied for position after the ROUND ROBIN, the final positions will be decided using the following criteria:

- Win / Loss record, if still tied, then;
- Winner of games between tied teams, if still tied, then.
- Difference of plus / minus of total runs scored in all round robin games, with a maximum of plus or minus seven (7) runs allowed per game. If still tied, then;
- Difference of plus / minus of total runs scored in round robin games between tied teams, with a maximum of plus or minus seven (7) runs allowed per game. If still tied
- Then, A coin toss will break the tie.

                        *Runs for and against will be based on full innings. If the bottom half of an inning is not required to decide a game, the home team will not bat in that inning. 

8. Pitching distances for both events will be 43 Feet.

9. The tournament will follow CASA rules. No new inning to start after 1 hour and 30 minutes. The seven (7) run rule will be in effect anytime after 5 complete innings. Ties will be counted in the round robin. There is no time limit on playoff games. The AInternational Tie Breaker Rule@ will be in effect at the start of the eighth inning for playoff games only.

10. In case of inclement weather, the following procedure will apply:

a) If the tournament is rained out during the round robin draw, all the teams will receive a refund of their entrance fee, less tournament expenses. The tournament executive will determine this figure.

b)  If the round robin draw is completed, the four teams entering the playoff round in each event will split the prize money.

c)  If only the first game of the playoff round is completed, the winners will split the first and second place prize money.

11. Teams must be prepared to field a full team at all times. No substitutes from other teams participating in the tournament will be allowed. Teams will only be allowed to use players registered on the official score sheet for the first game of the tournament. Your first lineup card will be considered your official roster (if your Tournament Roster Card is lost).

12. Teams that fail to field a full team at the scheduled start of a game will forfeit that game. There will be no grace period.

13. The ELSA tournament executives reserve the right to replace any team up to fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled game time.

14. The Protest Committee will consist of the Umpire-In-Chief, one of the Co-Chairpersons of the Tournament Executive, and an Executive member not involved in the event in question.

15. All Alberta teams must be affiliated with the AASA (Softball Alberta). Teams registered to play in Division 1A of ELSA, must enter the OPEN EVENT. Only teams in good standing with the ELSA will be accepted.

16. All teams will keep their own score. Winning team must turn in the score sheet at the conclusion of the game to the Tournament Control Tent (situated behind diamond #2 and diamond #3).

17. Home and Visiting Team will be determined by the Tournament Executive for each round robin game. The Home Team will take the third base dugout. A coin toss will determine home and away for the playoffs, with the Home Team taking the third base side.

18. Entry fees will not be refunded if a team is accepted in an event and written notice of acceptance has been sent. Entry fees will only be refunded if a team is not accepted; the tournament is canceled; or as stated in the bylaws.     

19. Edmonton and area teams registered with the ELSA are expected to be available to play Friday night.

20. All tournament information and draws will be posted at the Tournament Control Tent, between diamond #2 and diamond #3.
